Management of Medical Emergencies in the Dental Practice, 18 August 2017
This comprehensive course covers both basic Life Support (BLS) of a collapsed patient and the management of an acutely unwell patient due to a range of serious and life threatening emergencies.
This full day course is presented by dentists for dentists.

Dental Sedationist - Sydney Dental Sedations, Councillor and Conference Coordinator - Australian Society of Dental Anaesthesiology, Visiting Dental Officer - Westmead Hospital Center for Oral Health - Department of Intravenous Sedation. Dr Robert Turnbull has a practice dedicated to providing visiting sedation services to dental surgeries. He also teaches Medical Emergency, Anxiety and Pain Management, Relative Analgesia and LA to Dental Undergraduate and Post-Graduate students in the IV sedation department of Westmead Hospital, the University of Sydney and for the Australian Society of Dental Anaesthesiology.
Dr Angelo Preketes - BDS(Syd),Grad DipClinDent (Conscious Sedation & Pain Control) Grad DipClinDent (Oral Implants),Clinical Associate (Syd Uni). Dr Preketes is the Secretary for ASDA and sits in the Dental Practice Committee for the ADA. Dr Preketes also teaches Medical Emergency, Anxiety and Pain Management, Relative Analgesia and LA to Dental Undergraduate and Post graduate students in the IV sedation department of Westmead Hospital, University of Sydney and for the Australian Society of Dental Anaesthesiology. He is also in private practice, focusing on providing pain management techniques to deal with phobic, anxious patients, as well as implant and general dentistry .
Knowledge delivered will include: The DRSABCD protocol for managing the collapsed and unresponsive patient. The ABCDE protocol for managing the acutely unwell patient and how to apply this to common medical emergencies which arise in the dental environment. Materials in the form of protocols and flow charts will be used, which participants will keep so they can apply the knowledge and shills learnt and do not need to remember details.
Skills taught include: Airways management, ventilation management, and the application of supplemental oxygen.
CPR and AED use:
Additional skills required to manage emergencies as they arise in the dental surgery, such as administration of drugs needed. This course is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to recognise and manage a variety of emergencies which arise in the dental environment.
It will also give participants the knowledge they need to prepare their surgeries to respond to an emergency. This course meets QIP Practice Accreditation standards regarding Emergency Management Training and teach participants how they can meet the QIP requirements for medical emergency preparedness.
Both presenters are A List 2 accredited service providers.
